La Zona/Salto Grande fishery is considered by many traveling anglers to provide the most unique and consistently productive fishing experience in the entire world.

Quoting from The Angling Report, "La Zona is a place where the normal rules don't apply. These awesome fish are so huge and numerous it is like something out of prehistory… Since La Zona became available to anglers just two years ago, literally scores of fish exceeding the largest fly-caught IGFA record have been caught, including one that weighed more than 50 pounds. That is nearly triple the previously record! On top of that, at least one fish has been caught on baitcasting tackle that exceeded the previous world record by nearly ten pounds."

These aggressive fish are a real handful. If your rod is not yanked right out of your hands on the strike you have a serious fight on your hands. Our anglers have experienced dorado fighting over lures, had them run completely under the boat leaping eight feet in the air on the other side, and have even seen a hooked fish leap high out of the water and a second, competing fish, leap in the air and crash into the hooked fish attempting to get at the lure!

The guides are quite experienced and the fishing is done from new, spacious 22' center console boats--all first-class. Fly fishermen, spin casters and bait casters can all expect to hook/jump anywhere from ten to thirty dorado each day.

From The Angling Report, "What keeps things exciting is the surface behavior of the dorado. There is almost always something happening on the surface, if not on the part of large fish, then on the part of school after school of small fish that slam the surface near the dam. The feeding frenzy is reminiscent of that displayed by bluefish in the open Atlantic."

In order to keep the fishing quality at this amazing level, only four boats (two Argentine and two Uruguayan) are allowed in La Zona/El Salto Grande per day and fishing is allowed only Friday through Monday.
